ESB Architecture Model

In addition to the functional capabilities of an ESB, there are a number of technical capabilities which should also be considered, based upon the strategic implementation approach required by the enterprise. This will include:

  • Federated versus Centralised architecture.

  • Platform Scalability.

  • Local & Global Load Balancing

  • High Availability Architecture (including Multi-Site models)

  • Disaster Recovery

Example evaluation summary e.g SAP XI

Based upon the Showcase Architecture, the capabilities of SAP XI have been rated against this list of standard ESB capabilities. Each capability operation is rated as either; Fully Supported & Tested (FST), Partially Supported & Tested (PST), Product Capability but Not Tested (PCNT), Not a Capability (NC) or Not Known (NK).
