The revolution taking place in Information Technology driven by service oriented architecture (SOA) has enabled applications and infrastructure to be modular and reusable.

Service oriented design is a design style that establishes the way IT can be developed into modular, reusable components that can be better aligned and focused on business processes and capabilities.

This has enabled the business and IT goals and objectives the opportunity to be much better aligned and focused towards new capabilities and results.

The challenge has been to establish a way to drive the service design inside SOA projects to establish the right outcomes.

The history of Business Transformation and IT enablers

If we go back and look at the development of Business and IT technological and organisational capabilities in organisations we see different rates and stages of alignment.
