Just spoken at the kickoff internal meeting for the Platform 3.0 forum launch as an invited speaker with David Lounsbury, CTO , Vice President, and Dr Christopher Harding, Director of CLoud, SOA and Semantic Interoperability, The Open Group. Here are my slides and thoughts I shared.
Platform 3.0 is an initiative to understand the drive of emerging convergence between cloud computing, big data, mobility, social networks, embedded devices and the internet of things that is connecting business and IT today.

Individuals, companies and markets are faced with challenges not just about cloud services or BYOD device selection or security applications services; there is a plethora of different platforms, data , workloads, contracts and availabilities that present both huge opportunities but also complexity in customer experience, performance management and cost control.
Todays enterprise architecture is about constructing effective solutions but also how to connect to systems and services that may be outside your span of control. The notion of todays enterprise architecture is a combination of make, buy, rent and involves typically multiple platforms, workloads and devices. Enterprise solution strategy is also not about just one vendor viewpoint but a range of views that can ben developed as a platform strategy based around a chosen vendor technology or more often a range of vendors that need to work synergistically for the benefits of the individuals and the whole.
Traditional systems design, workload analysis and solution engineering needs to build on the best practices of SOA , Enterprise architecture engineering and commercial management. But infrastructure is not just the components and hardware but also the connected domains and services that people, companies and markets conduct their very existence in trading and daily lives in todays modern world.
Platform 3.0 is
a multiple systems of systems architecture initiative
is business and technology led – aiming to help define optimal platform strategies inside and outside the span of control of an enterprise
accelerate ecosystem thinking and adoption of open standards and practices
is digital innovation, digital ecosystems, digital infrastructure, natural architecture and distributed architecture ideas brought together
is not just a technology but looking across a several converging and diverging systems and platform technologies that represent modern enterprise , services and systems.
include adoption and new innovation examining technologies before they mature and how they maybe brought into an enterprise ecosystem
The Open Group have established a new forum for its members to drive this digital ecosystem of capabilities to discuss and define the next generation of solution and enterprise architecture strategies and standards.
Here are an first initial blogs on this from David Lounsbury and Chris Harding. To get involved please check out the open group site and either join or as a member I highly recommend you get involved now.
