What is Creativity?

Creativity is a shape shifter: something that is always rearranging: Making us thank Gods we don’t believe in, for it becoming part of our changing‑ It is the capacity to innovate: a form of improvisation:

It’s the tangles between the wires of our heart, and the lines of our imagination.

Creativity is something inspiring, numerical, word fuelled and new,

A beautiful arithmetic invented by the sum of what makes up the very best parts of you.

See, there’s this bulb in our heads and a light that won’t go out,

And the blue skies are the sounds of our voices calling out to the void, before the night starts to shout: We want freedom because we want to defy the norm, to do what nobody has done before:

We don’t want out thoughts to adhere to a form: we need the space they create to build and explore.

Creativity is the ability to lock eyes with a stranger and make up an entire lifetime: using the potential to connect with others:

It is a difference that looks like nothing, it is a quiet grace inside the lines, it is that perfect storm of colours.

Creativity is the key to the lock, thinking outside of the box‑

A spectrum ready to explode, ready to go off:

And the ability to be unorthodox.

It’s when you’re sat at your desk and your heart is breaking:

Creativity becomes you: it plays a part in your making‑

It is the ink in your pen liquid and free flowing:

It is the ache in the roots that supports the weight of you growing.

It is invention, thinking with a lack of convention- it pulls you out of the terror and all of the sadness:

It can look like colours on a canvas, it can look like brilliance, but it tastes like a voltage, it tastes like madness.

It is something out of nothing; it’s a cry out in the quiet dark, a confession,

It is wonderment, it is random, it is a form of self-expression.

Creativity is the power (and the most beautiful way to pass the hours), and a way to keep your cool:

It is fun and drums, as an actor presents himself to students in the Ramphallecture hall.

It magnetic, this possibility, this potential to unlock the shadows in one’s mind.

It is like a rolling snowball that increases in size, when thoughts are added to itby passing time.

Creativity is the man in this lecture, not conforming to norms, doing somethinggreat‑

It looks like anything, it looks like a promise, it looks like the hope that tells you it’s never too late. It’s where the mind goes out of the borders of the imagination.

It is the ability to breakdown and transcend the norm into an original interpretation It is lateral thinking, a refreshing mind at work, observation, realisation.

It is immeasurable, it is perspective, it is the ability to be reflective

It is ideas and wonderment, something out of the ordinary for everyone to see

Creativity is energy.

Creativity is me.
