The next generation of the Internet is coming….

It is one that is empowering, privacy-preserving and human-centric. One that views data as a service to us as individuals and as members of a collaborative society, as well as a service to firms to offer individuals innovative goods and services.

1st Mad Hatters’ Tea Party Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 1:45 PM to 6:00 PM (GMT) Impact Hub Westminster, 1st Floor, New Zealand House, 80 Haymarket, London SW1Y 4TE

What is the HAT?

The Hub-of-All-Things (HAT)[1] is the first-ever human-centric database structured to hold individuals’ own data, acquired from Internet-connected objects and/or web/technology services, for their personal use. This data is transformed by the HAT and contextualised to fit with human lives, to help individuals make decisions for a smarter and more effective life.

The HAT is a fully scalable database that also provides a standardised platform for firms to offer services to individuals for their data in a scalable way, and yet allows individuals to personalise these services to their own needs for a better fit in their lives. Most importantly, the HAT — and its transformed data — is owned by the individual.

Everyone should have a HAT for our data, just like how we have an e-mail account for our e-mails. The HAT can be provided by any service provider who can choose to offer individuals a HAT with other services, much like the way we can choose between e-mail providers today.

What the HAT means to Firms

As a multi-sided market platform for personal data, the HAT is a market maker, and we want to open up the HAT’s database for firms to:

  • build smart devices that individuals can control and acquire the data on the device onto their HAT;

  • build smart applications for individuals to make use of their data; or

  • help individuals trade their data for better buying decisions

1st Mad Hatter’s Tea Party

We invite you to join us at our 1st Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in London’s Impact Hub Westminster on Thursday, July 17, 2014, when we will be introducing various Business and Economic Models on the HAT and the HAT’s Database Model.

The Mad Hatter’s tea party is a brainstorming and consultation session between the HAT research team and industry on business/economic models as well as the technological issues of a multi-sided market platform for personal data.

Come along and find out more about what is possible with the HAT, and how you can get involved. We are particularly keen to engage with firms interested to:

  1. Build devices to connect to the HAT, so that data can be transformed by the HAT, shared with other data and used by individuals to buy new services and products;

  2. Build software applications for the HAT data that spans industries and emerge new business models;

  3. Combine 1 and 2 as part of an end-to-end data engagement and trade with individuals;

  4. Seed and invest in start-ups looking to build innovative devices and applications on the HAT;

  5. Facilitate the trade of data held by individuals in their HATs to match needs, obtain discounts, personalise products and offer services on the HAT to manufacturing and retail firms e.g. in health, fast moving consumer goods

  6. Provide consultancy services to other firms on the business models and opportunities that will come from connecting onto the HAT;

  7. Become a HAT provider for individuals’ data e.g. ISPs, Telcos, cloud storage services, banks, etc.

  8. The following is the proposed agenda for the day:

  • Arrival/signing in of guests

  • Welcome and Introduction to the HAT

  • The Art of the Possible: Economic and Business Models on the HAT By Irene Ng

  • Q & A/Discussion

  • Refreshment Break

  • HAT – Personal Data architecture: Technical Presentation & Consultation By Xiao Ma

  • Q & A and Open Discussion on Economic and Business Models of the HAT Itself

  • Refreshments and Networking

To understand more about the HAT, view the video on the HAT website, and the Prezi presentation here.
