The next decade will be important for the future governance of the Internet and of the Cyberspace as a whole. Like global environmental governance the global governance of cyberspace has the widest implications. Raising security standards is therefore a major issue, but the range and type of actor renders this a bewildering question. In particular, the NSA’s espionage activities in the light of the recent Snowden revelations have revealed the differences in American and European approaches and legitimate means of reaching their common goals.
