There has been a great deal of research into eye tracking technology , notably in advertizing and web page design to understand how human interaction works to best place images and adverts. This has benefits in optimizing content click-throughs for adverts that for example google’s business model is strongly based on.
The eyefluence acquisition by google is interesting because its another avenue in how to interact in a 3D space, in this case virtual worlds that is a rapidly developing new market. While attention has been on VR glasses and occulus rift to AR augmented games such a PokemonGo, the real benefits are the 3D location data and interaction with smart objects.
This enables Google to build out beyond its huge webpages and data repository and offer devices that can use augmented data with real objects just be the use of the eye movements.
This is a recognition that its nolonger just the keyboard, muse of VR glasses but something bigger in terms of physical and virtual workspaces that these devices and systems are only just starting to hit the market.
Google has a lot at stake in seeking ways to build new platforms in this 3D world that FaceBook , Microsoft and others are also realizing is potentially one of the next big things. Advertizing and user experience becomes multi-dimensional and immersive just be moving, looking and speaking to things in places.
